Spanish Town, St. Catherine. The boundaries of this project were defined by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT) in 1990 and contain an approximate area of 5.18 km2.

Description:

Spanish Town, the former capital of Jamaica remains one of Jamaica's most untapped historic and cultural tourism attractions, and ranks as a potential World Heritage Site. Generally speaking, the environment of the Spanish Town historic district shows signs of significant urban blight. This points to the need for a programme of urban renewal. The main focus is the preservation of the historic / cultural heritage with the active partnership and involvement of the community.

The People’s Museum

Built in the shape of an Arawak house, it is octagonal with conical roof. Artifacts of pre Columbian Jamaicans, the Arawaks, situated on a seven acre site occupied continuously by Arawaks for one hundred years.

Fort Clarence Beach & Twin Sisters
